Macquarie University Cancer Biobank

Macquarie University Cancer Biobank is dedicated to providing high-quality biospecimens to enable research into the cause, development, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Macquarie University Cancer Biobank collects tissue and blood from patients under investigation or treatment for cancer within Macquarie University's Health Sciences Centre, MQ Health, which includes Macquarie University Hospital and a range of specialist clinics. Macquarie University Cancer Biobank has been certified by the NSW Health Pathology Biobank Certification Program.

High quality biospecimens and patient information associated with the samples are made available to researchers who are conducting ethically approved cancer research.

The aims of the Cancer Biobank are to:

  • accelerate research into the molecular and cellular biology of cancer
  • facilitate the discovery and validation of novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers, and
  • enable the rapid translation of research results into clinical care.
